The Motus AY is the first and only device to combine Alexandrite and ND:YAG laser wavelengths in a pain-free delivery mode, making it the gold standard in laser hair removal.

Its cutting-edge Moveo technology harnesses the power of the Alexandrite laser, widely recognised by dermatologists as the most effective option for laser hair removal, while delivering a completely comfortable experience.

The Science

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The hair growth cycle

Laser hair removal works best during the Anagen stage of the hair cycle. This is the active growth phase, when the hair is still connected to the follicle and its colour is darkest, absorbing heat most easily. The laser follows the pigment in the hair to destroy the follicle root, but this only works while the hair is in this active phase.

Hairs in the Catagen or Telogen stages are not growing and won’t respond well, because the follicle has already detached from the root.

Because each follicle grows at its own pace, treatments are recommended every 4–8 weeks so every follicle can be targeted in its active stage. Most people need 4–6 sessions for good results.

More Than Hair Removal

Skin Rejuvenation Laser Facial

Our skin-tightening laser facial takes just 45 minutes, with no downtime required. For best results, 4–6 sessions are recommended.

Laser facial skin rejuvenation treatment
  1. Stimulates collagen production: helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and improves skin elasticity
  2. Improves skin tone and texture: helps improve age spots and sun damage from UV exposure
  3. Shrinks pores and balances oil: tightens pores, improves circulation and balances oil production
  4. Treats acne and scarring: ND:YAG wavelengths target acne-causing bacteria and inflammation, while the laser therapy helps break down scar tissue
  5. Improves rosacea and pigmentation
Advanced Treatments

Vascular Lesions & Pigmentation

We also treat leg vessels, facial vessels & pigmentation (cheeks & nose, half or full face, neck, chest and hands) and rosacea.

What to expect

  • Full results and clear skin can often take 6 to 12 weeks to be visible.
  • Immediately after treatment, treated veins often turn darker (blue/purple) as blood coagulates inside them. This is a sign the vessel has responded to the laser.
  • Mild bruising and a ‘tight’ sensation are reported side effects that can last up to 3 weeks.
  • Occasionally a new network of tiny red vessels (telangiectatic matting) can develop around treated areas. These usually resolve spontaneously over several months.
  • After treating pigmented lesions like sunspots or freckles, the spots often turn dark brown and ‘frost’ immediately. This is a normal sign the pigment is breaking up, and spots will naturally peel or flake off in 1–2 weeks.
  • Expect mild inflammation, warmth and redness for up to 3 days post treatment.

Important Information

Who Should Avoid Laser Hair Removal?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding: due to hormonal changes and increased skin sensitivity, treatments are generally discouraged.
  • Active skin conditions & infections: anyone with active infections, including cold sores, or severe skin conditions like active eczema, psoriasis or acne in the area to be treated.
  • Recent sun exposure or tanned skin: tanned or sunburnt skin increases the risk of side effects like pigmentation changes, burning and scarring. We recommend waiting 4–6 weeks after sun exposure.
  • Specific medical conditions: those with lupus, porphyria or other photosensitive disorders, as well as people with uncontrolled epilepsy (due to the flashing light).
  • Keloid scarring history: people prone to developing raised keloid scars should avoid treatment, as the laser can trigger a keloid scar.
  • Tattoos and permanent makeup: lasers can cause severe burns, pigment changes and ruin tattoos, so the ink area must be avoided.
Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IPL and laser?
Professional laser hair removal is superior to IPL for permanent hair reduction because it uses a single, precise wavelength of light to destroy deep hair follicles with minimal risk to surrounding skin. While IPL devices are cheaper and convenient for at-home use, their scattered light often yields superficial, temporary results that require continuous maintenance. Advanced professional lasers offer unmatched efficiency, achieving high hair reduction rates in fewer sessions. Laser technology is also the safer, expert-recommended choice for a broad spectrum of skin tones, providing reliable, long-lasting value for darker skin types prone to IPL-induced pigmentation issues.
Is the treatment permanent?
Laser hair removal is generally not considered 100% permanent, but it is a highly effective long-term solution that provides significant, lasting hair reduction. While many follicles are destroyed permanently, others may only be damaged, leading to sparse, finer hair regrowth over time that often requires annual maintenance sessions.
Is the device actually painless?
Yes, largely. It uses proprietary Moveo technology (a sapphire tip) that provides continuous, gradual heating, which is significantly more comfortable than the “snap” of traditional lasers. Many users describe it as a warm, pleasant massage rather than pain.
Is the device safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. The Motus AY is suitable for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I–VI). It is recognised as the first system to successfully use an Alexandrite laser safely on darker skin types, and it also includes an ND:YAG setting specifically for tanned or darker skin tones.
